KENYA: Kindiki Endorsed As Mount Kenya Region Spokesperson

Kenyan Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has been endorsed by Mount Kenya elders as the region’s spokesperson and representative during a high-level consultative meeting at Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu County.

The gathering brought together elders from the ten Mount Kenya counties, who called for unity, peaceful political engagement, and development across the region.

National Patron of the Agikuyu Elders, Kinyua wa Mwangi, urged leaders to work with the government of the day to deliver development to residents.

“Leaders must bring development to our people. We urge them to work hand in hand with the government of the day so that the Mount Kenya region continues to progress.”

Kindiki, accepting the responsibility, called for political tolerance and respect among leaders, urging the region to preserve peaceful political competition.

“We must embrace political tolerance and respect one another. Historically, Mount Kenya leaders competed vigorously, yet those contests never resulted in the destruction of property that we sometimes witness elsewhere today.”

The Deputy President also urged leaders from the region’s communities to prioritise residents’ welfare over personal and factional interests, as elders pledged to continue dialogue and consultations aimed at strengthening unity.
