Kenyan President William Ruto has made significant changes to his cabinet, nominating three prominent figures to take up key ministerial positions.
Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, ex-Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, and former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui are among those selected in a bid to strengthen the government’s performance and deliver on the administration’s promises.
The announcement, made earlier this week, has stirred mixed reactions among political leaders and the public.
Kabogo, known for his outspoken and reformist approach, has been nominated for the Ministry of Trade, where he is expected to spearhead efforts to attract foreign investments and boost local enterprises.
Mutahi Kagwe, who played a critical role during the COVID-19 pandemic, returns to government as the nominee for the Ministry of Education.
His nomination is expected to bring his managerial expertise to address challenges such as the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) implementation and resource allocation for schools.
Meanwhile, Lee Kinyanjui, a former county chief with a background in urban planning, has been tapped to head the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
His appointment is anticipated to inject fresh ideas into the development of Kenya’s road networks and public transport systems.
“These appointments are part of my government’s ongoing commitment to deliver better services to Kenyans and uphold our development agenda,” President Ruto said during the announcement.
The nominations now await parliamentary approval. Analysts suggest that the individuals’ diverse experiences and track records could make them valuable assets to the cabinet.
However, opposition leaders have criticized the reshuffle, accusing the president of rewarding political allies instead of prioritizing technocratic expertise.
As the process unfolds, Kenyans eagerly await to see how these appointments will impact the government’s service delivery and address pressing socio-economic challenges.
