Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera has departed Malawi for an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), aiming to strengthen diplomatic and multilateral relations between the two nations.
The President has assured Malawians of positive outcomes from his visit as he is scheduled to meet with His Royal Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, to discuss key agenda items.
He highlighted that discussions will include intergovernmental cooperation on petroleum product supply.
This cooperation seeks to address the erratic supply chain experienced under the open tender model.
In his words: “The visit aims to find lasting solutions to our fuel supply challenges.
“My delegation and I will negotiate better payment terms and cycles for secure fuel access.”
In addition to his meeting with the UAE President, Chakwera will engage in bilateral discussions with other prominent UAE government officials.
Accompanying President Chakwera on this trip are the First Lady, Monica Chakwera, and other government officials. They are expected to return to Malawi on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
The successful outcome of this visit is anticipated to bolster Malawi’s economy and ensure a stable fuel supply.
