NIGERIA: Veteran Journalist Lekan Alabi Dies at 76

Veteran journalist, media strategist and the Abese of Ibadanland, Alhaji Lekan Alabi, has died at the age of 76.

Alabi reportedly passed away on Saturday morning in Ibadan, Oyo State, after decades of service to journalism, public communication and the state’s public service.

The late journalist served as Press Secretary to several former governors of Oyo State and was widely regarded as one of the state’s most influential media personalities.

Beyond journalism, he was recognised for his contributions to the promotion of Yoruba culture and tradition through his role as the Abese of Ibadanland.

His death was confirmed by the Palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland in a statement signed by the Olubadan’s Media Aide, Adeola Oloko.

The palace described Alabi as a committed journalist, public communicator and cultural ambassador whose contributions to Ibadanland and Oyo State would be remembered.

Family sources disclosed that he would be buried on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.

Further details regarding his burial arrangements and tributes are expected to be announced by his family and the Olubadan Palace.
