NIGERIA: LASTMA Rescues Female Accident Victim on Lekki-Epe Expressway
By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (Lagos State Traffic Management Authority) has rescued a female victim with fractured arm and leg following a hit-and-run accident at EFF Bus Stop inward Marwa along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos.
The incident occurred when an unidentified driver reportedly knocked down the victim and fled the scene, leaving her critically injured on the busy highway.
According to LASTMA, officials who were on duty quickly activated an emergency response, securing the victim from further danger and clearing the road to prevent secondary accidents.
The agency also immediately contacted the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), which arrived at the scene and evacuated the victim to the General Hospital, Odan, for urgent medical treatment.
In a statement, LASTMA confirmed the coordinated response, noting that traffic officers ensured the swift restoration of vehicular movement along the corridor.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the rising cases of hit-and-run incidents, describing such behaviour as irresponsible and unlawful.
He stated: “Every motorist bears an inherent civic and moral obligation to uphold the sanctity of human life. Fleeing the scene of an accident after causing injury to another road user is not only an abdication of responsibility but also a grievous affront to humanity and the rule of law.”
He further commended the collaboration between LASTMA and LASAMBUS personnel, noting that their swift intervention was critical to saving the victim’s life and restoring normal traffic flow in the area.
Bakare-Oki reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to proactive traffic management and rapid emergency response across Lagos State, urging motorists to exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations.
He also encouraged road users to promptly report accidents and emergencies through official channels to ensure timely intervention by relevant authorities.
