The Mthwalo cultural grouping is set to hold its annual Mthwalo Day Celebration from June 19 to 20, 2026, at Ezondweni, the Mthwalo Headquarters in Mzimba District, in an event aimed at promoting cultural heritage and community development.
According to promotional materials released by the organizers, this year’s celebration will be held under the theme, “Heritage: A Catalyst for Sustainable Development,” highlighting the role culture and traditions can play in advancing social and economic progress.
The two-day event is expected to bring together traditional leaders, cultural enthusiasts, government officials, and members of the public from across the country to celebrate the rich heritage of the Mthwalo people through traditional dances, cultural exhibitions, and community engagements.
Organizers say the gathering will also provide a platform for discussing ways of preserving cultural values while embracing development initiatives that benefit local communities.
His Majesty, Inkosi ya Makhosi M’mbelwa V, is expected to attend the event as Guest of Honour, underscoring the importance of traditional leadership in promoting unity, identity, and development among communities.
The celebration comes at a time when cultural institutions across Malawi are increasingly being recognized as key partners in safeguarding the country’s heritage and contributing to national development efforts.
Participants are expected to use the occasion to reflect on the importance of preserving indigenous knowledge, customs, and traditions for future generations while exploring opportunities for sustainable growth rooted in cultural identity.
