JUST IN: Ex-Power Minister Saleh Mamman Sentenced To 75 Years In Prison For Corruption
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years imprisonment for corruption linked to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects.
Justice James Omotosho convicted Mamman on all 12 counts brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and ordered the sentences to run consecutively.
The judge directed that the jail term should begin from the day Mamman is arrested, and instructed all security agencies to arrest him wherever he is found.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of all monies and properties already recovered from the former minister to the Federal Government and directed him to refund the outstanding balance of the alleged N22 billion diverted from the two power projects.
Saleh Mamman served as Minister of Power under former President Muhammadu Buhari from 2019 to 2021 before he was removed in a cabinet reshuffle. He was arraigned by the EFCC in 2024 on charges of money laundering and abuse of office.
The sentencing marks a significant conviction of a former high-ranking government official in one of Nigeria’s most trou
bled sectors.
