By Onoja Baba
The 2023 Delta State Governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo Agege has formally announced his intention to contest the Delta Central Senatorial District seat in 2027 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
In statement released on Wednesday, the former Deputy President of the 9th Senate described his decision as a response to patriotic duty and extensive consultations across the eight local government areas of the district.
He emphasized that the Urhobo Nation deserves an experienced and courageous voice to ensure it plays a significant role in shaping Nigerian democracy.
He reflected on his previous tenure from 2015 to 2023, citing the establishment of a modern federal polytechnic and a national defence space school as evidence of his effectiveness in Abuja.
He argued that his return to the Senate is necessary to prevent the district from falling into silence and to ensure that federal projects continue to reach the people. He promised to deliver legislative leadership that moves beyond mere rhetoric to secure tangible benefits in education, healthcare, and security.
The Senator also voiced strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that while current economic reforms are challenging, they are vital for the nation’s future.
He highlighted the Presidential CNG Initiative and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as programs that directly benefit the youthful population of Delta Central. He concluded by calling for a united party front, urging supporters to view the upcoming election as a contest of ideas aimed at the greater good of the Urhobo people and the Federal Republ
ic of Nigeria.
