Kenya has launched the 2026 Africa Mental Health Leadership and Advocacy Programme, positioning the country as a regional hub for mental health training and capacity building.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Health through Kenya Medical Training College in partnership with Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, has brought together participants from 17 African countries.
Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni Muriuki said the programme will strengthen leadership and improve access to quality mental health services across the continent.
“The programme is designed to equip participants with practical skills in leadership, governance, advocacy, research and public mental health,” she said.
She added that the government is prioritising reforms to integrate mental health into primary healthcare and expand community-based
services.
