KENYA: Interior PS Omollo Assures Full Probe into Nandi Helicopter Crash
By Moses Punyuah, Nairobi
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has assured Kenyans of a thorough government investigation into the tragic helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, that claimed six lives.
Speaking after the incident, Dr. Omollo said security agencies had already launched joint investigations to establish the exact cause of the crash, which occurred on Saturday evening shortly after take-off from Chepkieb area.
“That particular accident was very unfortunate. I want to convey my sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones,” Omollo said.
“The team from the Ministry of Interior and other security agencies are doing what they need to do to get to the bottom of what really happened.”
Among those who perished was Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno, alongside his bodyguard Amos Kipng’etich, cameraman Nick Kosgey, Carlos Keter, Wycliffe Rono and pilot George Were.
The PS said investigators from the Ministry of Interior, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department are working jointly on the probe, noting that preliminary assessments point to poor weather, but cautioning against speculation.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto, accompanied by several national and county leaders, on Monday visited the home of the late MP to condole with the family, as the country continues to mourn the legislator. The late Johana Ng’eno is expected to be laid to rest on Friday.
Dr. Omollo was speaking in Nyeri County during a school fundraising event, where he also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to education development and national security, while warning against political violence and intolerance.
“Every individual must be given a chance to express themselves without intimidation and without scaremon
gering,” he said.
