NIGERIA: Armed Forces To Try 16 Officers For Alleged Plot To Overthrow Tinubu’s Government

The Defence Headquarters has announced that investigations into the arrest of sixteen military officers in October 2025 for acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations have been concluded with some of the officers facing allegations of plotting to overthrow the government.
In a press release signed by Major General Samaila Uba Director Defence Information the Armed Forces of Nigeria AFN made available to the media on Monday, the comprehensive probe was conducted in line with established military procedures and the report was forwarded to the appropriate superior authority.
The findings revealed that a number of the affected officers were involved in conduct inconsistent with the ethical values and professional standards of the Armed Forces including alleged plotting against the government.
Those found to have cases to answer will be formally arraigned before the appropriate military judicial panel for trial in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations.
The AFN emphasised that the measures are strictly disciplinary aimed at preserving order discipline and operational effectiveness within the ranks while upholding fairness and due process.
The statement reiterated the Armed Forces’ commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism loyalty and respect for constitutional authority.
