MALAWI: Saulos Klaus Chilima Foundation Donates To Hospital Patients During Festive Season

The Saulos Klaus Chilima Foundation has appealed to individuals and corporate institutions to support patients admitted to public hospitals during the festive season, saying the period should be one of hope and compassion for all.
The call was made by the Foundation’s Board Chairperson, Mary Chilima, during the donation of food items to patients at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.
Mary Chilima said the initiative is aimed at continuing the legacy of the late Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima, who made it a tradition to visit and encourage patients during Christmas. “Dr Chilima believed that no one should feel forgotten, especially during the festive season. This gesture is our way of keeping that spirit alive,” she said.

She further urged well-wishers to extend kindness to those in hospitals, noting that small acts of generosity can restore dignity and hope to patients and their families. “We are calling upon Malawians and companies of goodwill to join us in supporting those who are spending Christmas on hospital beds,” Chilima added.
Kamuzu Central Hospital Director General, Dr Amos Nsekandiana, commended the foundation for the donation, describing it as timely and impactful. “This support will go a long way in improving the morale of our patients during this festive period,” said Nsekandiana.
Dr Nsekandiana also encouraged other organisations and individuals to emulate the foundation’s example. “When partners come in to support hospitals, it helps us provide not only medical care but also emotional comfort to patients,” he said.
The Saulos Klaus Chilima Foundation has also made similar donations to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre and Mzuzu Central Hospital, bringing the total value of the donations to K7.4 million.
