NIGERIA: NAFDAC Recall Indomie Vegetable Flavour Noodles Over Undeclared Allergens
By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the public to the recall of Indomie brand noodles, Vegetable Flavour, following a notice issued by French food safety authority, Rappel Conso.
The alert, issued on Friday forms part of NAFDAC’s ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and ensure food safety in Nigeria.
According to NAFDAC, the recall was initiated due to the presence of undeclared allergens, milk and eggs, in the affected product, which could pose serious health risks to consumers with allergies or intolerances.
Details of the recalled product show that it covers all batches of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles with a best-before date of February 6, 2026. The country of origin was not stated in the recall notice.
While NAFDAC noted that the risk of the product entering Nigeria remains low due to the Federal Government’s ban on the importation of noodles, the agency warned that illicit entry through online purchases or international travel cannot be ruled out.
As a precautionary measure, NAFDAC said it has commenced nationwide vigilance actions to prevent the circulation of the affected product. Zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to carry out surveillance and immediately mop up the product if found in any part of the country.
The agency also advised distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise caution within the supply chain to avoid the distribution, sale, or consumption of the recalled foreign brand of Indomie noodles.
Consumers who may come across the product have been urged not to consume it, but to discard it and report any sightings to the nearest NAFDAC office or through its toll-free complaint lines.
NAFDAC further encouraged members of the public to report any adverse reactions linked to the consumption of the product via its e-reporting platforms or directly to the agency.
