The 7th AU–EU Summit has officially opened at the Dr António Agostinho Neto Memorial in Luanda, the capital city of Angola.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, Angolan President Joao Lourenço, who is also the current Chairperson of the African Union (AU), described the summit as an important platform for Africa and Europe to renew their commitment to promoting peace, strengthening security and accelerating economic integration and empowerment.

Upon arrival at the venue, Malawi’s Vice President, Dr Jane Ansah, told journalists that Malawi expects stronger commitments from the European Union in areas such as energy, digital infrastructure, trade facilitation and support for the country’s industrialisation agenda.
Held under the theme “Promoting Peace and Prosperity through Effective Multilateralism,” the summit has brought together Heads of State and Government and senior representatives from all 27 EU member states and 55 AU member states.
The high-level meeting is expected to address key global challenges, including climate resilience, conflict resolution, youth employment and sustainable development.
Discussions will also focus on enhancing cooperation between the two continents to drive inclusive growth and strengthen regional institutions.
The summit will conclude on Tuesday with the release of a joint communiqué outlining agreed actions and commitments.
