NIGERIA: Sowore Warns Against Trump’s Threat Of U.S. Military Action In Nigeria
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has cautioned Nigerians against supporting the recent threat by former U.S. President Donald Trump to launch military action in Nigeria under the guise of protecting Christians.
In a statement posted on his social media handles on Sunday, Sowore described Trump’s remarks as “perilous,” warning that U.S. military interventions across the world have historically resulted in chaos rather than peace.
“The latest threat by U.S. President Donald Trump to launch military action in Nigeria, allegedly to protect Christians, may sound appealing to some. Still, history has shown this to be perilous,” Sowore wrote.
He noted that regardless of religious affiliation, Nigerians should reject such rhetoric, citing America’s failed interventions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria.
According to him, “The United States and its allies have a long record of military interventions that leave nations more unstable than before. They failed to secure peace in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, or Syria, and they won’t bring salvation to Nigeria through bombs or boots on the ground.”
Sowore emphasized that Nigeria’s solution lies not in foreign intervention but in good governance and accountability at home.
“What Nigeria truly needs is not a foreign savior but legitimate, accountable leadership — one that protects all citizens, upholds justice, and ends the cycles of corruption and violence that have left the nation broken,” he stated.
The activist further argued that Trump’s interest in Nigeria is not genuine, insisting that lasting change must come from within. “President Donald Trump does not care about Nigerians – not Christians, Muslims, or anyone else. Our deliverance will never come from abroad; it must come from within, through real leadership (not the Tinubus of this world) and national renewal,” Sowore declared.
