Preparations are in top gear for this year’s Gonapamuhanya Cultural Festival, which will take place on November 14, 2025, at Kadumuliro Headquarters in Borelo, Rumphi District.

The annual event, which celebrates Tumbuka cultural heritage, is one of the most significant traditional ceremonies in northern Malawi. It is held under the leadership of His Royal Highness Inkosi ya Makosi Chikulamayembe, who will preside over the occasion.

Chairperson of the organizing committee, Chief Kapanthe, said preparations are progressing well and the event will bring together Tumbukas and other Malawians from across the country. “This festival is not just about dancing and celebration, but also about preserving our history, culture, and the unity of our people,” said Chief Kapanthe.
According to the organizers, Gonapamuhanya provides a platform to showcase the rich cultural practices, dances, and traditional regalia of the Tumbuka people. “Gonapamuhanya reminds us of who we are as a people and the values we must uphold,” said one committee member.
This year’s ceremony will feature a variety of traditional dances such as Chimbuza, Miganda, and other cultural performances. In addition, renowned artists Skeffa Chimoto and Moses Makawa are expected to entertain the audience with live performances.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend the event, which promises a perfect blend of music, culture, and unity. “On November 14, all roads will lead to Borelo as we celebrate the beauty of our culture,” said one local leader.
