NIGERIA: Nigeria Deploys Four Technical Aid Volunteers to Sierra Leone
By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The Federal Government of Nigeria has deployed four skilled professionals to the Republic of Sierra Leone under the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) scheme, in a renewed effort to strengthen regional cooperation and promote human capital development across Africa.
According to a statement by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the volunteers, comprising two professors, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) holder, and a master’s degree holder, possess expertise in law, medicine, and science.
The deployment, the Ministry said, aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to deepening bilateral and multilateral relationships with sister nations in Africa and the Caribbean under the Renewed Hope foreign policy agenda.
Ebienfa stated: “The deployment is a direct fulfilment of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral ties with sister nations across Africa, including the Caribbean, as part of his broader vision for South-South cooperation.”
He explained that the volunteers would be integrated into relevant institutions in Sierra Leone, where they are expected to contribute their technical expertise to support the country’s human capacity and human capital development goals.
Ebienfa added that the initiative underscores Nigeria’s longstanding dedication to regional collaboration and knowledge exchange as tools for sustainable development.
He said: “The Nigerian government appreciates the Government of Sierra Leone for the warm reception accorded to the volunteers.”
He noted that the partnership reflects Nigeria’s belief in collective prosperity and shared destiny among African and Caribbean nations.
The Ministry further reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to continue exploring new avenues of cooperation aimed at promoting mutual development, peace, and regional stability.
The Technical Aid Corps Scheme, established in 1987, is a key element of Nigeria’s foreign policy thrust, designed to share the nation’s expertise with other developing countries in the spirit of African solidarity and global partnership.
