MALAWI: Vice President-Elect Jane Ansah Forgives Critics Despite Family Trauma
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Vice President-elect Justice Dr. Jane Ansah says she has forgiven and holds no grudge against those who insulted her and her family during the 2019 elections.
Dr. Ansah explained that she was not shaken by the negative remarks or the demonstrations organized by various groups, stressing that she was only doing her job according to the law and committed no wrongdoing.

However, she revealed that her mother and her husband, Right Reverend Dr. Joseph Addo Ansah, were deeply traumatized by the events. She said her mother stopped walking and lost her memory until she received medical treatment in the United Kingdom, while her husband lost a significant portion of his vision, making it difficult for him to walk on his own.
She further disclosed that insults and verbal abuse on social media contributed to raising her mother’s and husband’s blood pressure, which worsened their health conditions. This, she noted, led to her husband’s partial blindness and her mother’s memory loss.
According to Dr. Ansah, she is sharing this experience for the first time to help people understand the harm caused by insults and spreading falsehoods.
She added that she believes these challenges came so that God’s purpose in her life could be fulfilled. Together with President-elect Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, she pledged to serve the nation with reverence for God, aiming to bring transformation and address the challenges Malawians are facing.
