A fire outbreak on Tuesday afternoon engulfed a six-storey building at Afriland Tower, Broad Street, Lagos Island, prompting a swift response from Lagos State emergency services.
According to a statement by Ogabi Olajide, Deputy Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the call was received at 13:38 hours, and fire crews from the Ebute Elefun Fire Station and Sari Iganmu Fire Station were immediately deployed.
The fire was traced to the inverter room located in the basement of the building, while smoke spread across multiple floors, affecting the entire structure.
The statement read: “Evacuation of occupants is in progress, while firefighting operations has been concluded by dousing the earlier panic before the arrival of the first responders.”
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service assured that its officers are on the ground to prevent further escalation, as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
