NIGERIA: Tinubu Applauds Gumel, Amusan for Elevating Nigeria’s Global Image

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated two distinguished Nigerians, financial strategist Farouk Gumel and world athletics icon Tobi Amusan, for their recent international achievements which he described as “a source of national pride.”
In a statement on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said Gumel’s appointment as Chairman of the Botswana Sovereign Wealth Fund Limited reflects the rising global reputation of Nigerian professionals in finance and governance.
Tinubu said: “Gumel has consistently contributed to Nigeria’s drive for food sufficiency, particularly in his role as Vice Chairman for Africa at the Tropical General Investment Group. His leadership in this significant role brings immense pride to our nation, and I am confident he will excel and further cement Nigeria’s reputation for excellence in global finance.”
On the sporting front, the President hailed Tobi Amusan’s silver medal performance in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, praising her perseverance and resilience on the global stage.
He added: “Tobi has once again demonstrated that with patriotic fervour, coupled with hard work and determination, any height is surmountable. Her achievement is a source of national pride.”
Tinubu assured both Gumel and Amusan of his administration’s support as they continue to represent Nigeria internationally.
He also urged young Nigerians to draw inspiration from their accomplishments, noting that excellence, dedication, and patriotism remain the surest paths to success.
