MALAWI DECIDES 2025: Presidential Candidates Cast Ballots, Urge Citizens To Vote
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and First Lady Monica Chakwera, alongside presidential contender Dr. Dalitso Kabambe and his spouse, today cast their votes in the ongoing general elections.

Dr. Kabambe’s running mate, Professor Matthews Mtumbuka, also exercised his constitutional right at his designated polling centre.
Speaking after voting, President Chakwera urged Malawians to take advantage of the opportunity to shape the nation’s future through the ballot. “This is a historic day for our democracy. I call on all Malawians to go out in large numbers and vote peacefully,” he said.

Dr. Kabambe echoed similar sentiments, stressing the importance of citizen participation in determining leadership. “Every vote counts. I encourage all Malawians to head to their polling stations before they close at 4 p.m. and make their voices heard,” he said.

Professor Mtumbuka added that elections are not only about choosing leaders but also about reinforcing the country’s democratic values. “Let us demonstrate unity and peace as we decide the direction of our beloved nation,” he said.
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has reminded voters that polling stations will officially close at 4 p.m., urging those still in queues by that time to remain patient as they will be allowed to vote.
