NIGERIA: IGP Egbetokun Represents Nigeria At Global Security Forum In China
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, is leading Nigeria’s delegation to the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum (GPSCF) holding in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, People’s Republic of China, from September 16 to 18, 2025.
The IGP’s participation follows an invitation from the Chinese government to join global leaders in security and law enforcement for the annual forum, which brings together ministers, police chiefs, security experts, and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies against transnational crime and strengthen international cooperation.
As part of the programme, IGP Egbetokun will deliver a keynote address on Thursday, September 18, on the theme “Combating Transnational Crime and Countermeasures.” His presentation is expected to highlight Nigeria’s counter-crime initiatives, recent policing reforms, and collaborative efforts with global partners to disrupt cross-borde criminal networks and enhance community safety.
Ahead of the forum, the police chief will hold a bilateral meeting on Monday, September 15, with China’s Deputy Minister of Public Security, Mr. Qi Yanjun. The discussions will focus on enhancing security cooperation, intelligence sharing, capacity building, and deepening law enforcement ties between both countries.
The Nigeria Police Force said Egbetokun’s attendance at the high-level forum underscores Nigeria’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing, proactive responses to security threats, and international collaboration in safeguarding communities.
“The IGP’s participation reaffirms Nigeria’s position as a responsible global partner in shaping the future of public security and law enforcement,” Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement issued from Force Headquarters in Ab
uja on Monday.
