By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have continued to record breakthroughs in the ongoing Operation EGWUA A TITE II in Kogi State as efforts to tackle banditry and restore peace in troubled communities intensify.
In a statement issued in Lokoja, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, said the operation, which began on September 1, 2025, has so far led to the neutralisation of several bandits, the destruction of their settlements, and the recovery of arms.
According to Abdullahi, troops of the 126 Battalion, led by their Commanding Officer and supported by Other Hybrid Forces, engaged bandits in Tunga general area during an advance operation, killing two in a gun battle.
He added that the Commander, 12 Brigade, and Force Commander of Operation Accord III, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, personally led troops to clear more hideouts and dominate the area with patrols and ambushes.
On September 2, troops, acting on credible intelligence and backed by air support from the 405 Helicopter Combat Training Group, launched a mission at Ankomi where they engaged fleeing bandits and neutralised scores.
The following day, clearance operations were carried out in Aleke, Ungwan Soni, and Ungwan Nyaba communities.
Five locally made Dane guns were recovered while one kidnap victim, Pabo Suleiman, and his two children were rescued from captivity and reunited with their family.
The Army spokesman further disclosed that on September 5, a fierce battle at a bandits’ hideout ahead of Tunga led to the death of notorious bandit commander Kachalla Bala and five others.
On the same day, troops, working with Hybrid Forces, ambushed a suspected supply route at Agbede–Adankoo Bridge, where a logistics courier was killed.
Items recovered included a motorcycle, two mobile phones, and an AK-47 magazine loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition.
The 12 Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to ridding Kogi and adjoining areas of banditry and other security threats, pledging to remain resolute in restoring peace and security in the region.
