NIGERIA: NAFDAC Warns Public On Circulation Of Expired Lara Force Insecticide
By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the public to the circulation of expired Lara Force Lambda-Cyhalothrin 2.5% (1 Litre) insecticide, batch number Xzh2020006.
According to the agency, 5,000 cartons of the product were discovered to have been unlawfully auctioned to various third-party buyers despite expiring on March 7, 2023.

NAFDAC explained that Lara Force Lambda-Cyhalothrin 2.5% is a synthetic pyrethroid-based insecticide widely used in agriculture and pest control, with a typical shelf life of two to three years depending on storage conditions.
The agency warned that using the expired insecticide carries serious risks, including reduced efficacy due to degraded active ingredients, higher toxicity with possible harmful byproducts, increased skin and eye irritation, environmental hazards such as harm to beneficial insects and water contamination, and physical instability that could clog sprayers or cause uneven application.
Healthcare professionals and consumers have been urged to report any suspected sale of substandard or falsified products to the nearest NAFDAC office, call the toll-free number 0800-162-3322, or email sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
