Malawi: Mchinji TB Official Urges Citizens To Prioritise Fight Against the Disease
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
The Deputy Officer in Charge of the Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program in Mchinji, Alex Mphalasa, has stressed that the fight against TB should be a priority for every citizen in the country.

Mphalasa said the disease has continued to spread in recent years due to the negligence of many community members who lack adequate commitment to tackle it.
“It is true that many people are aware of this disease, but they are unwilling to share information with others the way they do with other matters,” Mphalasa said.
Chairperson of Paradiso TB Patient Trust, Mary Joseph, said the organisation is currently working hard to spread TB awareness through various gatherings, including outreach sessions at health facilities.
Data from the Mchinji TB Control Office shows that in 2023, the district recorded 179 TB patients, 35 of whom were from the Paradiso group. In 2024, the number dropped to 149, with 19 cases coming fro
m the group.
