The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwolu has lauded residents for their peaceful and responsible conduct during the just-concluded local government elections, describing the turnout and behaviour at polling units as a reflection of Lagos’ democratic maturity and civic strength.
In a statement released shortly after voting ended, the governor expressed gratitude to Lagosians for turning out to vote, commending their “sense of responsibility” and orderly participation across polling centres.
He said: “Your peaceful conduct, sense of responsibility, and turnout across polling units have once again demonstrated the true spirit of Lagos, a state built on participation, progress, and people-centred governance.”
The governor gave special recognition to young people, the elderly, market women, artisans, and professionals for performing their civic duties with dignity.
He stated: “You have shown that democracy will continue to shape leadership when the people actively participate in elections. In other words, you reaffirmed that we are truly the ‘Centre of Excellence’.”
Security agencies, electoral officials, and members of the press also received commendation for their roles in maintaining a credible and peaceful atmosphere during the election.
“To our security agencies, the media and electoral officials, I say thank you for your professionalism, dedication, and commitment to ensuring a safe and credible process. Your efforts helped make today a success,” the statement read.
While the public awaits the official results from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), the governor urged political actors and candidates to remain calm and law-abiding.
“Together, we have taken another bold step in strengthening democratic governance at the grassroots. That is the Spirit of Lagos!” he declared.
