NIGERIA: Osun Must Not Return To Era Of Half Salaries, Adeleke Tells Voters

Osun State Governor and governorship candidate of the Accord Party, Ademola Adeleke, has urged residents to reject the All Progressives Congress in the August 15 governorship election, alleging that civil servants suffered hardship under the party’s previous administration.

In a post on his X account on Thursday, Adeleke appealed to eligible voters to support his re election bid, saying his administration would not allow the state to return to what he described as the era when workers received half salaries and struggled to feed their families.

“We will not allow APC to take Osun back to the days when civil servants had to beg their neighbours for food,” the governor said, adding that those who “weaponised poverty” by paying workers half salaries were seeking a return to power to inflict more hardship on residents.

Adeleke urged voters to “send a clear and resounding message” on August 15 by supporting his administration, insisting that Osun had chosen the path of progress, compassion and good governance.

He also called on residents to protect what he described as the mandate of the people.

In a separate statement, the governor defended his administration’s record on workers’ welfare, maintaining that civil servants had remained a top priority since he assumed office.

He accused the APC of showing disdain for workers and said the welfare of public servants had been central to his government’s policies.

Adeleke further expressed confidence that what he described as the unjust freezing of the state’s accounts would strengthen the determination of the people to prevent a return to “the era of darkness.”

He concluded by urging voters to choose “progress over regression, good governance over neglect,” ahead of the August 15 governorship election in which he is seeking another term under the Accord Party platform.
