NIGERIA: FG Launches 1Gov Cloud to Drive Paperless Governance by 2025
By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The Federal Government has commenced the full rollout of its 1Government Cloud (1Gov) Digitalisation Project, an initiative designed to usher in paperless governance across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
According to the Presidency, in a statement shared on Sunday via the X handle of Kamorudeen Yusuf, Personal Assistant on Special Duties to the President, the project is being implemented by Galaxy Backbone Limited under the Sovereign Digitalisation Programme.
The initiative introduces secure platforms such as GovDrive, GovMail, GovE-Sign, GovConference, and GovAsset Management, aimed at streamlining approvals, strengthening data sovereignty, and improving accountability.
The statement reads partly: “The 1Gov platform will cut costs tied to printing and storage, enhance transparency, and secure sensitive government documents, while enabling faster decision-making across agencies.”
This milestone aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with a target of achieving 70% digitalisation of public services by 2025 and a fully paperless civil service by December 2025.
