Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, state governors, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and other dignitaries on Monday gathered in Abuja for the one-year remembrance ceremony of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The event, held at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre, Asokoro, brought together members of Buhari’s family, including former First Lady Aisha Buhari and the late President’s children, alongside former cabinet ministers and aides, current and former governors, traditional and religious leaders, lawmakers, diplomats, and former service chiefs.
The remembrance programme featured prayers, tributes and reflections on the life, leadership and legacy of the former Nigerian leader.
A commemorative book titled Tributes and Condolences in Honour of Muhammadu Buhari, containing messages from world leaders and other notable personalities, was also scheduled to be unveiled during the event.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s President from 2015 to 2023, having earlier ruled the country as military Head of State between 1983 and 1985.
The former President died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 in a London clinic after a prolonged illness and was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.
