Nigerian media personality Denrele Edun has celebrated his 45th birthday by symbolically marrying himself, describing the gesture as a tribute to self-love, resilience and personal growth.
In a post shared on X on Tuesday, the television host and entertainer posted a video of himself dressed in a white suit and veil while holding a bouquet.
Explaining the unusual celebration, Denrele said he chose to marry himself because he remains “the greatest love story” he has ever known after years marked by triumphs, controversies and reinvention.
“Till death didn’t do us part. So I married myself. After 45 years of chaos, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, resilience, heartbreak and triumph, I remain the greatest love story I’ve ever known,” he wrote.
In another post, the media personality said the symbolic union was about honouring every version of himself that endured life’s challenges and emerged stronger.
“Today, I marry the only person who never left my side: ME! The bride was me. The groom was me. The happily-ever-after was mine,” the statement reads.
Denrele, a graduate of English Language from the University of Lagos, rose to prominence in the early 2000s as a red carpet host and television presenter on Soundcity.
He remains one of Nigeria’s most recognisable entertainment figures, known for his eccentric fashion style, vibrant personality and enduring influence in the media industry.
