NIGERIA: Deji Adeyanju Hails VeryDarkMan As Most Influential Voice Of This Generation
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Prominent human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has declared that no one in this generation matches the influence of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
In a post on Wednesday, Adeyanju, who also serves as VDM’s lawyer, wrote, “No one has VDM’s influence in this generation. No one comes close. Super proud of you darki. We can now confidently leave the stage for the real courageous ones.”
The statement comes amid growing recognition of VDM’s rising profile as one of Nigeria’s most fearless and outspoken digital activists.
Born on April 8, 1994, in Abuja, with roots in Edo State, VeryDarkMan gained prominence through his no-holds-barred commentary on social justice, government accountability, celebrity misconduct, and public sector corruption. His large and highly engaged following on platforms like Instagram and TikTok has enabled him to mobilise public opinion and demand action on issues ranging from police brutality to human rights abuses.
Adeyanju’s comments signal a symbolic passing of the baton, acknowledging that younger, bold voices like VDM are now driving the conversation on national issues.
The veteran activist, known for his own high-profile advocacy and legal battles, has frequently represented VDM in court, including cases involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other authorities.
Political observers interpret the post as both a commendation of VDM’s impact and a reflection of Adeyanju’s willingness to step back and allow a new generation of activists to take centre stage in the fight for good governance and social justice in Nigeria.
VeryDarkMan has built a reputation for confronting powerful individuals and institutions, often using his platform to advocate for the voiceless. His bold style has earned him both widespread admiration among Nigerian youth and occasional backlash from critics and authorities.
