NIGERIA: Actor Chidi Mokeme Laments Military Escort Needed For Repairs On Nigeria’s Power Infrastructure
By Utebor Paul, Nigeria
Nollywood actor Chidi Mokeme has expressed frustration over the state of Nigeria’s power infrastructure, reacting to reports that military protection is required to conduct repairs on vandalised electricity facilities.
Taking to X, Mokeme described the situation as a “shame,” highlighting the extensive security measures needed, including the Air Force, Army, Navy, Police, and local vigilante groups, to ensure the safety of technicians on site.
“So what we are hearing now is that in order for the ‘damaged’ electricity infrastructure to be fixed, the technicians require the combined protection of the Air Force, Army, Navy, Police, & Vigilante to get to work,” Mokeme posted, concluding with the remark, “Naija really Jagajaga!”.
The commentary comes amidst recent disruptions to power supply in parts of Northern Nigeria, where repair efforts have reportedly been delayed by safety concerns for repair crews..
