Manchester United and Chelsea are poised to compete for the signature of Porto’s breakout striker Samuel Omorodion, in the upcoming 2025 summer transfer window.
Both clubs have reportedly placed the 20-year-old forward on their radar, with Chelsea eyeing a renewed approach after narrowly missing out on him last summer.
During the previous transfer window, Chelsea agreed to a £35 million fee with Atletico Madrid for Omorodion.
However, the deal unexpectedly fell through, leading Omorodion to join Porto instead.
The Spain U23 international has since flourished, netting 11 goals in 11 appearances this season, including seven goals in the Portuguese league and four in the Europa League, with a memorable brace against Manchester United.
The young striker’s form has been electric, and his stellar performances have drawn renewed interest from Chelsea, as well as new attention from Manchester United.
According to reports from Fichajes, Chelsea plans to reignite its interest in the summer, while United views Omorodion as a priority target.
However, Porto is expected to demand his full release clause of €100 million (£83.3 million) to entertain any transfer bids.
Omorodion’s journey has been one of rapid evolution. Starting his professional career at Granada, he moved to Atletico Madrid in 2023.
Yet, despite signing a five-year deal, Omorodion found himself sidelined and was subsequently loaned to Alaves, where he scored eight La Liga goals last season. Following his stint at Alaves, he transferred to Porto, a decision he now considers transformative.
Reflecting on a challenging period at Atletico Madrid, Omorodion shared his struggles in a recent interview with EFE. “When I was in Madrid, I had a very bad time. I trained separately and didn’t feel involved. I cried a lot at night… my family had a hard time too,” he revealed, adding that his move to Porto was “the best decision” for his career.
Omorodion’s upward trajectory continued with his impressive showing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he played a crucial role in Spain’s U23 team winning the gold medal.
Now Porto’s joint-leading scorer alongside teammate Galeno, Omorodion recently recorded his first hat-trick in a league match against AVS, further solidifying his reputation as one of Europe’s hottest young prospects.
As next summer’s transfer window approaches, both Manchester United and Chelsea are likely to intensify their pursuit of Omorodion, potentially setting the stage for a high-stakes bidding war over the promising young striker.
