MALAWI: Maranatha Academy Offers Full Scholarship to Lone Female Standard 8 Candidate in Mangochi
By Smile Hamilton
Maranatha Academy has announced a scholarship opportunity for Duwama Muhammad, the only female learner sitting for the Primary School Leaving Certificate Examinations (PSLCE) at Mangale Primary School in Mangochi District.
Head of Maranatha Academy, Ernest Kaonga, said the institution has reserved a place for Duwama from Form One to Form Four if she successfully passes her Standard 8 examinations.
Kaonga said the scholarship will cover her secondary education and will also include a financial support package of K500,000 per term to assist with other school-related needs.
“We want to encourage and support girls who remain committed to their education despite the challenges they face. Duwama has demonstrated determination, and we are ready to support her academic journey,” said Kaonga.
According to information from the school, this is the first time since 2017 that a girl has reached Standard 8 and qualified to sit for the national examinations at Mangale Primary School.
The development has attracted praise from education stakeholders, who say the scholarship could inspire more girls in the area to remain in school and pursue their education.
Many girls in the community fail to reach Standard 8 due to challenges such as early pregnancies, a situation that continues to affect girls’ education in several parts of the country.
