By Smile Hamilton Malawi
Darlington Lipenga, a Malawian researcher and risk analyst, is set to become the first Malawian invited to present at the annual research colloquium hosted by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), scheduled for 17 March 2026 in Midrand.
The research colloquium will bring together scholars and infrastructure experts to discuss solutions for sustainable development under the theme “Building Resilient Infrastructure for Socioeconomic Transformation.” The forum aims to promote research-driven solutions that can help strengthen infrastructure and economic development in the region.
Speaking in an interview, Lipenga described the invitation as a major milestone both personally and for Malawi. Lipenga is known as a writer and independent researcher focusing on governance, sustainability and risk management issues affecting institutions and economies.
“This invitation is a personal and national milestone. It means my work as a writer and researcher has now been validated,” he said.
Lipenga will present a paper titled “Advancing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) through Green Infrastructure Solutions in Resource-Constrained Malawian Cities.” The research highlights Malawi’s vulnerability to climate-related disasters, a situation that has been worsened by rapid and unplanned urban settlements in ma
ny cities.
