MALAWI: AUSC Region 5 Reviews Strategic Plan to Strengthen Sport Development

The African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 has concluded a three-day strategic plan review meeting in Maputo, Mozambique, aimed at assessing progress and shaping the future of sport development across Southern Africa. The meeting brought together about 60 delegates from the 10 Region 5 member countries, including Malawi.
Participants reviewed progress made under the regional strategic blueprint and discussed areas requiring improvement. Officials said the future of sport in Southern Africa will largely depend on stronger regional collaboration, sustainable investment in sport and increased innovation in governance, communication and programme delivery.
“The future of sport in Southern Africa depends on stronger collaboration among member states, strategic investment and innovative governance to improve programme delivery,” officials said during the meeting.
Delegates also stressed the importance of aligning the Region 5 Strategic Plan with global frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union Sports Policy. They further noted that about 70 percent of the region’s strategic plan has already been achieved in the past two years, expressing confidence that the remaining targets will be met
by 2028.
