Kenyan President William Ruto, has announced plans to diversify Kenya’s energy mix with nuclear power, including the construction of a 2,000MW plant in Siaya County set to begin next year.
Speaking at the International Conference on Nuclear Energy at Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, the President said nuclear energy will play a key role in achieving the country’s 10,000MW generation target.
“Integrating nuclear energy into the national grid will provide clean, reliable, and stable power while lowering electricity costs and strengthening energy security,” he said.
Ruto added that the move will support industrial growth, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and accelerate Kenya’s journey toward a developed
