A 38-year-old man has died in Runyenjes, Embu County, after being attacked by an angry mob for allegedly assaulting his mother.
Local chief John Kareko identified the deceased as Kariuki, saying he was discovered lifeless inside his home shortly after the incident.
According to witnesses in Mukuria village, residents rushed to the homestead after hearing loud cries from the victim’s mother.
It is alleged that the man had beaten her, knocking out one of her teeth, sparking outrage among villagers who descended on him.
Police reported that Kariuki likely succumbed to injuries sustained during the beating.
His body was later moved to Kyeni Hospital mortuary as investigators work to establish the exact cause of death through a postmortem.
Authorities have since launched inquiries into the incident.
