JUST IN: Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde Declares Presidential Ambition On APM Platform
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Makinde made the announcement on Thursday at a well-attended rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the state capital.
“I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, Excellency, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he declared to a loud ovation from supporters.
The declaration comes after Makinde led the Taminu Turaki faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the APM.
The governor and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, signed the agreement on behalf of their parties.
Under the alliance, candidates of the PDP faction contesting for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly seats will run on the APM platform in the 2027 elections.
The development marks a significant political realignment in Oyo State ahead of the next
general polls.
