MALAWI: Two GeneXpert Machines And K60 Million Missing At Machinga District Hospital
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Two GeneXpert machines used for tuberculosis and HIV testing, along with K60 million in cash, have gone missing at Machinga District Hospital.
The hospital’s spokesperson, Wongani Nyirenda, has confirmed the disappearance of the equipment and funds, stating that they were discovered missing early Tuesday morning.
Police investigations are currently underway to establish how the machines and money vanished.
Nyirenda explained that the missing machines have seriously affected the hospital’s diagnostic services, as they play a crucial role in delivering multiple test results at once.
Meanwhile, Belinda Chimombo, chairperson of non-governmental organisations in Machinga, has pledged to work hand in hand with the hospital authorities to help trace the missing machines and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
