MALAWI: Makewana Leads Traditional Sacrificial Ceremony In Balaka
… Urges People To Uphold Cultural Practices
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Makewana recently led a group of people in offering traditional sacrifices to Mpochera in Balaka District.

The sacrifices were offered at an ancient tree that has stood for many years and is known for its historical significance in the community.
In her remarks, Makewana, who is regarded as a highly respected traditional mother figure, encouraged those who had gathered to continue performing such rituals as a way of seeking blessings.

“Many problems are happening today because we have abandoned our culture and we no longer listen to the Creator,” said Makewana.
The ceremony attracted people from surrounding areas who came to witness and participate in the cultural event, which is seen as an important way to preserve traditional beliefs and strengthen communal ties.
