Nigerian Troops Kill Scores Of Boko Haram Fighters In Lake Chad Ambush
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled an attempted infiltration by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists at the Naval Base Lake Chad in the Fish Dam area.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday around 2 AM, targeted newly acquired Swamp Boggeys deployed by the Borno State Government for clearing waterways in the Lake Chad region.
The Amry announcing the development on Wednesday via their social media handle said, the terrorists launched the offensive to destroy the equipment but met stiff resistance from naval personnel stationed at the base.
Reinforcements from Baga swiftly joined the fight, resulting in a fierce firefight that lasted over two hours.
The joint land, air, and maritime troops neutralized scores of the terrorists during the exchange.
Despite the attackers’ efforts, they failed to reach the Swamp Boggeys and were forced to retreat.
However, the assault resulted in some damage as an ambulance and two other vehicles were destroyed.
Several personnel sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Following the failed infiltration, air component platforms have continued aerial surveillance and pursuit operations along the waterways to track and further decimate fleeing terrorists.
Recovered from the scene were several improvised explosive device materials, further indicating the militants’ destructive intentions.
Military authorities have commended the swift and coordinated response of the troops, describing it as a major success in protecting critical infrastructure and maintaining control over the Lake Chad region.
