MALAWI: Salima Sugar Company Kicks Off 2025 Production Season To Ease Sugar Scarcity

Salima Sugar Company has officially opened its 2025 sugar production season, a development expected to alleviate the shortage of sugar in local retail shops.
According to Wester Kosamu, Executive Chairman of Salima Sugar Company Limited, the company anticipates producing 22,000 metric tons of sugar this year.

Kosamu made the announcement during a tour of the company’s premises by Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale, who was briefed on the commencement of production.
Kosamu assured that Salima Sugar would flood the market with its products starting next Monday.

Meanwhile, Minister Kawale hailed the start of sugar production, saying it would address the shortage of sugar in the markets and stabilize prices. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring sustained production and expansion at the company.
