By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has published the personal particulars of all candidates contesting in the upcoming 2025 Anambra State governorship election.
According to a statement signed by the Commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, a total of sixteen political parties successfully submitted their nomination forms before the deadline of 6:00pm on Monday, May 12, 2025.
The commission confirmed that the nomination forms, submitted through INEC’s dedicated portal, included details of the governorship candidates and their running mates.
These details, along with academic credentials and other submitted documents, are now publicly displayed at INEC’s State Headquarters in Awka and in all 21 Local Government Area offices across Anambra State.
INEC urged Nigerians, particularly party members and other stakeholders, to scrutinise the submitted documents carefully.
The commission reminded aspirants who participated in party primaries that they were entitled to challenge the nomination of any candidate they believe provided false information.
Such legal action, INEC stated, must be filed at the Federal High Court as stipulated in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act, 2022.
The electoral body further disclosed that the final list of candidates for the Anambra governorship election will be published on June 9, 2025.
This is in compliance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act, which requires the list to be released at least 150 days before the election date.
The governorship election in Anambra State is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
