NIGERIA: Actress Jumoke George’s Missing Daughter, Adeola, Found Alive in Mali

By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The 41-year-old daughter of veteran Yoruba actress Jumoke George, Adeola George, has been found alive in Mali, four years after she went missing.
Jumoke first publicly discussed her daughter’s disappearance during an emotional interview on the Talk to B show, hosted by actress Abiola Bayo.
She revealed that Adeola had been living with her grandmother in Ibadan before vanishing after informing the family she was heading to Lagos.
According to Jumoke, her daughter eventually re-established contact, asked for forgiveness, and explained that she had left the country with friends in pursuit of a better life.
During the same interview, Jumoke opened up about her deteriorating health and financial struggles, which had worsened over the years.
She said her condition had forced her to cancel acting jobs, refund payments, and borrow money for medical treatment.
She also disclosed that further medical tests were required, which would cost around ₦400,000.
Jumoke said, “Any small money I make from occasional jobs goes into searching for my daughter. She was staying with my mother in Ibadan. One day, my mother called and said Adeola told her she was heading to Lagos to meet me. But she never arrived. That was the last we heard from her.”
Jumoke admitted she had kept her struggles hidden out of shame and fear of public ridicule.
“I couldn’t show up on set due to my health. I even had to return payment for a role I couldn’t deliver. I’ve borrowed money just to survive,” she added.
In a significant update, host Abiola Bayo announced on Wednesday that Adeola had been located in Mali.
Bayo said she spoke with Adeola via a video call, during which Adeola confirmed she was alive, although she had yet to speak directly with her mother.
“Her mom is just relieved to know she’s alive,” Bayo shared on Instagram.
She also confirmed that Jumoke is currently receiving treatment at a state hospital in Lagos and awaiting further medical evaluation.
Bayo added: “Hopefully, she will either be discharged or admitted soon, depending on the outcome of the tests. Thank you to everyone who has shown support.”
