MALAWI: Maize Donation Brings Relief To Hunger-Stricken Families In Mulanje

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
At least 240 households from five villages under Traditional Authority Njema in Mulanje District have received maize donation from the Neno-based Beyond Our Hearts Foundation (BOHF), with support from the Malawi Diaspora Network–USA.
Speaking after receiving the donation today, the Chairperson of the Njema Area Development Committee, Dick Zangwa, described the support as timely, given the community’s ongoing struggles with the aftermath of Cyclone Freddy and persistent dry spells that have affected crop yields.
“This donation provides much-needed relief to families facing hunger in the district,” said Zangwa. He also appealed to well-wishers for continued support to assist more affected families.
BOHF Executive Director Russell Msiska affirmed the foundation’s commitment to ongoing assistance and encouraged others to join the effort.
He also urged beneficiaries not to sell the donated maize, stressing that it should be used to support those most in need.
The villages that benefited from the donation include Malunda, Sema, Likoswe, Mphapo, and Makiloja.
