Former Oyo State Governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Royal Majesty Rashidi Ladoja, has been confirmed as the Chairman and Royal Father of the Day for the 2025 World Egungun Festival.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, made the announcement during a courtesy visit to Ladoja’s residence in Ibadan.
The visit aimed to formally inform the revered traditional leader of the state’s intention and seek his royal blessing and consent.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
Olatunbosun highlighted the Egungun Festival’s importance as a global cultural event that celebrates Yoruba traditions and attracts participants from across the world.
He emphasised the state government’s commitment to using the festival as a platform to promote unity, cultural values, and tourism.
Olatunbosun said.“The Ministry reiterated its commitment to promoting cultural values, unity, and tourism through events such as the Egungun Festival, and looks forward to a successful and impactful celebration.”
Ladoja, who warmly received the delegation, expressed his appreciation and accepted the invitation to serve as the festival’s chairman.
He commended the efforts of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in preserving Yoruba heritage through such events.
