Malawian Kennedy Mbekeani Takes the Helm At African Development Bank

The African Development Bank Group has announced the appointment of Kennedy Mbekeani, a seasoned Malawian professional, as Director General for the Southern Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office and Country Manager for South Africa. Mbekeani’s appointment takes effect on May 1, 2025.
With a wealth of experience, Mbekeani previously served as Director General for the East Africa Regional Development, Integration, and Business Delivery Office and Country Manager for Kenya. During his tenure, he oversaw a substantial portfolio valued at $16.6 billion across 13 countries.
