In a heartfelt tribute, the South Sudan government has announced today (Friday), as a National Public Holiday to honour the memory of His Holiness, Pope Francis, who passed away on Easter Monday
In a statement released on Thursday, Cabinet Minister Dr. Martin Elia Lomurö hailed Pope Francis as a shining beacon of peace, compassion, and humility.
His moral leadership and steadfast advocacy for the poor, marginalized, and voiceless have inspired millions across the globe, including the people of South Sudan.
Minister Lomurö emphasized Pope Francis’s significant contributions to peace and reconciliation in South Sudan, particularly highlighting the historic 2019 Vatican retreat, where the Pope demonstrated an extraordinary act of humility by kissing the feet of South Sudanese leaders.
This moment, the Minister stated, will forever be etched in the hearts of our nation as a powerful symbol of hope, healing, and unity.
