The Public Health Institute of Malawi has confirmed two cases of Mpox in Lilongwe. The cases were reported on March 20 and April 9, 2025, and the results were confirmed positive on Thursday at Bwaila Hospital.
The Ministry of Health is working closely with international partners, including the World Health Organization and the CDC USA, to ensure a robust response to the outbreak. Health officials are taking measures to prevent the spread of the disease, including enhanced surveillance and contact tracing.

Citizens are advised to take precautions to protect themselves, such as avoiding close contact with suspected or confirmed cases, observing good hygiene, and using condoms during sexual activity. The public is also encouraged to report any suspicious symptoms to health authorities promptly.
The Ministry of Health is working to identify potential contacts of the confirmed cases and provide them with guidance and support. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as necessary.
The government urges the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with health officials to prevent the spread of Mpox. By working together, we can help contain the outbreak and protect public health.
